Aleksey Shadrin
Aleksey Shadrin is an internationally acclaimed Ukrainian cellist and prizewinner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2022. In 2026 Shadrin received a Borletti-Buitoni Trust (BBT) Special Commissioning Award. Born in Kharkiv, he studied at the Kharkiv National University of Arts, the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media with Leonid Gorokhov, and the Kronberg Academy with Frans Helmerson. He was later an artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, working with Gary Hoffman.
As a soloist, he has appeared in major European concert halls including the Konzerthaus Berlin, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Flagey, BOZAR Brussels, Elisabeth Hall Antwerp, and the Rudolfinum Prague, and has been invited to leading festivals such as the Verbier Festival, Kronberg Festival, Cello Biennale Amsterdam, Rheingau Musik Festival, and the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades.
A sought-after chamber musician, he regularly collaborates with distinguished artists including Tabea Zimmermann, Nicolas Altstaedt, Gil Shaham, Renaud Capuçon, Frank Braley, and Quatuor Ébène, with whom he performed in venues such as Wigmore Hall London, Tonhalle Zürich, De Singel Antwerp, and the Mozarteum Salzburg.
